How I Turned My Empty-Nester Frown Upside Down
Both of my children left for college and I am officially an “Empty Nester”. This should be great, right? I haven’t decided yet.
The question I keep asking myself is what’s next?
I have worked from home since 2011 when my daughter was in first grade and my son in 4th. Along with running my company, Spellbound Vacations, LLC, I was a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout Leader, a PTA member, an official “Cheerleading Mom”, a taxi driver, and so much more whenever my children needed. But as they enter their Senior and Freshman years of college, I am left wondering what to do with all this “free” time.
I had dreamed for so long of the freedom to travel where and when I want to. I have always cherished the adult-only getaways my husband and I would take once or twice a year. And now, we have the freedom to travel together more often!
Our first trip- a 5 Night Bermuda sailing on the Disney Magic in October. I know what you’re thinking, why would you choose Disney Cruise Line if you’re traveling without kids? Here are 4 reasons why…
- Palo – this adults-only restaurant is available for brunch and dinner. We have dinner booked on Day 2 of our sailing. There is an additional charge to dine here and you must book in advance. The cost for our dinner is $45 per person and this will be charged to our shipboard account. Dining at Palo requires you to “dress to impress”. Formal or semi-formal attire is encouraged. I’m looking forward to an evening of formal dining!
- Beverage Tasting Seminars – I am super excited about the Champagne Tasting I have booked for our last day at sea. These seminars are for ages 21+ and it is recommended you book via the app in advance. Champagne isn’t the only tasting option. Disney Cruise Line offers beer tastings, bourbon tastings, cognac tastings, martini tastings and so much more!
- Adult Exclusive Bars & Lounges – Did you know that Disney Cruise Line offers dedicated adults-only areas? On the Disney Magic this area is called After Hours. It caters exclusively to adults after nightfall. After Hours is home to a variety of distinct bars, lounges and hopping nightclubs. I’ll definitely be spending time in this area!
- Senses Spa and Salon – According to DCL, the Senses Spa & Salon provides tranquility, pampering, and relaxation with a multitude of spa and beauty treatments. Senses offers everything from spa treatments including couples massages to manicures & pedicures, men’s haircuts & a shave, and so much more! I have not booked a massage yet but it’s on the list.
I will admit along with all the adult experiences onboard, I am still looking forward to the character meet & greets! And did I mention, it is a Halloween on the High Seas sailing! I’m still deciding on what costume to wear!
